What is all this talk about the "cloud"?
Tuesday, February 21, 2012I was packing for a trip to Vegas a few weeks ago and checking off my list of travel necessities for the standard stuff like socks, pants, shirts, toothpaste... I started thinking that ten years ago my list included things like an iPod, a book and plane tickets. My mind wondered back a few more years and realized there was a time that I actually had to pack CDs if I wanted to take my music with me.
Flash forward to today and I don't even need an iPod at this point, I've got the cloud. As long as I'm connected to the internet I can get to my entire music collection from pretty much anywhere. I've got my phone with wifi and 3g, so my 500+ CDs that are uploaded to my machine at home and synced with the cloud go everywhere. The same goes for a book or plane tickets, it's all right there on my phone over the internet.

Online dating used to be a bit, well, embarrassing. Browsing love-match sites was something to be done late at night, at home, when no one could see. And if you actually found love online, you'd probably lie about meeting in a bar or through some shared connection. But no longer. The internet love industry has gone mainstream. According to new research commissioned by Match.com, as many as 1 in 5 new relationships now begin on an online dating site. That’s pretty huge when you consider the fact that online dating didn’t even exist 15 years ago. And with this newfound prevalence, much of the taboo, embarrassing image of online dating has dissipated into a more common social acceptance.
